News and Notes For July 15-16

From time to time, I’ll combine all the latest Wizards news into one blog post. Here’s the lowdown on what’s been going on over the past 48 hours.

Wizards 88, Mavericks 82

The Wizards improved to 3-0 in the Summer League with an impressive victory over the Mavs. Below is the box score from the game, courtesy of NBA.com.

C. Edwards DNP – COACH’S DECISION
A. Jalloh DNP – COACH’S DECISION
  • The Wizards got great performances from JaVale McGee and Cartier Martin. It’s evident Martin is playing for his NBA life right now.
  • The McGee-Wall combo becomes more enticing each game. Wall loves finding McGee for alley-oops. Check out this video of the two talking about their growing bond.

  • My impression of John Wall’s performance? He was much more under control passing the ball, and those seven rebounds were a nice bonus. Yes, he shot the ball very poorly (4-19) but I was more impressed that he ended up with 21 points even on an off night. That’s the sign of a star, when you can get double-digit points at the free throw line. Still, Jeremy Lin had his way with him, and that can’t continue moving forward.
  • Trevor Booker did not play well at all. He’s had a disappointing Summer League overall.

Ronnie Brewer Off the Market

The Bulls grabbed Ronnie Brewer after signing him to a three-year, 12 million dollar deal. Now that we know what Brewer’s asking price was, I’m even more amazed that Ernie Grunfeld didn’t try to bring him in. Four million dollars a year for an extremely young, proven defender who could slide to the small forward position? What’s not to like? The Bulls are creating a very formidable team that could give Miami and Boston a run for their money.
