And there’s more–McGee was invited to the Team USA training camp and participated in practice against the Lopez twins and Tyson Chandler. This news is courtesy of Chris Sheridan at ESPN.com…
LAS VEGAS – Washington Wizards center JaVale McGee has been added to Team USA’s training camp roster, bringing the number of players who will begin practicing Tuesday to 22 in preparation for the 2010 World Championship in Turkey, USA Basketball officials said Monday.
McGee, who practiced with Team USA in a minicamp last summer, received an invite to camp after averaging 19.5 points and 9.3 rebounds for the Wizards during the Las Vegas Summer League.
The roster is expected to be cut to 15 or 16 players prior to the start of training camp Aug. 9 in New York, and to 12 before Team USA opens pool play at the world championship against Croatia on Aug. 28.
I’m glad to see McGee is garnering so much attention around the league. Now, if he can put the pieces together and play up to the hype come regular season, that would be every Wizard fan’s dream.
