Predicting the Wizards Record: Part One

Today we take a closer look at Washington’s schedule in October and November. I’ll examine the most appealing games to watch and predict the Wizards’ record for those months.

October

28th at Orlando Magic (season opener)

Prediction: Loss

30th at Atlanta Hawks

Prediction: Loss

Analysis: The Wizards will start the season 0-2. Sorry, the truth hurts. There’s no way Washington beats Orlando in their brand new arena, and there’s no way Washington competes with the Hawks in their own home opener.

November

2nd versus Philadelphia 76ers (home opener)

Prediction: Win

5th at New York Knicks

Prediction: Loss

6th versus Cleveland Cavaliers

Prediction: Win

10th versus Houston Rockets

Prediction: Loss

12th versus Charlotte Bobcats

Prediction: Win

13th at Chicago Bulls

Prediction: Loss

16th versus Toronto Raptors

Prediction: Win

17th at Boston Celtics

Prediction: Loss

19th versus Memphis Grizzlies

Prediction: Win

21st at Detroit Pistons

Prediction: Win

23rd versus Philadelphia 76ers

Prediction: Win

25th at Atlanta Hawks

Prediction: Loss

27th versus Orlando Magic

Prediction: Loss

29th at Miami Heat

Prediction: Loss

Analysis: I’ve got the Wizards at 7-7 in November, meaning they would be 7-9 entering December. That’s a good enough record to tread water in the Eastern Conference, but November is also the easiest month out of any Washington has all year. Two games in particular stick out as turning points: November 12th versus the Bobcats, and November 21st at Detroit against the Pistons. I have Washington pulling out tough wins, but if they don’t, that record might end up at 5-11 instead of 7-9.

Come back tomorrow for part two of the season preview.
