According to Yahoo! Sports, the Wizards and Andray Blatche are disagreeing on when he should be able to return to action.
Washington Wizards center Andray Blatche(notes) had foot surgery in June and got his boot removed about 10 days ago. He told the Washington Post that he’ll be ready to go when training camp kicks off Sept. 28, but team president Ernie Grunfeld isn’t as certain and won’t commit to a return date.
Blatche, who averaged 14.1 points, 6.3 rebounds and 2.1 assists last season, has been riding a stationary bike and taking reps on an elliptical machine, but he’s not allowed to get involved with any basketball-related activities yet.
“He’s making good progress,” Grunfeld told the paper, “but we’re not going to rush.”
Blatche seems in more of a hurry. When he had the surgery to repair a broken metatarsal in his right foot, the expectation was that he’d be out for three months.
I’m glad Blatche is anxious to return, but I’d rather he take things slowly. Big men don’t heal very easily, and if Andray is anything less than 100% when training camp begins, he should sit out. The last thing the Wizards need is the loss of one of their only good bigs. Blatche is a huge part of the team this season.
