The Wizards have three games on tap this weekend, culminating with a John Wall vs. Derrick Rose must-see showdown on Saturday.
Here’s a look at each matchup and what the Wizards need to do to close out the week 4-4.
Wednesday, November 10: Versus Houston Rockets
Yao Ming will be in the lineup Wednesday as the Rockets will have a few days off between games. Ming will certainly be tough to stop, and JaVale McGee will have to be very careful avoiding silly fouls.
Houston’s weakness right now is at point guard, because starter Aaron Brooks is out 4-6 weeks. That means John Wall will have to play like he did against Philadelphia to help pull out a win. The Rockets are 1-5, but the first four teams they played have a combined record of 25-5. That means Houston will be hungry to get back on the right track and take down the youthful Wiz.
Friday, November 12: Versus Charlotte Bobcats
This is a must-win game for the Wizards. At home, against a 1-5 divisional foe, there are no excuses. The Bobcats are a depleted team without a legitimate big man. If Al Thornton can help keep Gerald Wallace off the glass, the Wizards guard trio (Wall, Arenas, and Kirk Hinrich) should be able to carry the scoring load. This is a game where JaVale McGee can shine–expect plenty of blocks.
Saturday, November 13: at Chicago Bulls
Washington doesn’t stand much of a chance against the Bulls in Chicago. Still, you know John Wall will be extra motivated to put on a show against the guy he’s so often compared to–Derrick Rose. The Wizards actually match up well with Chicago until you get to the center position, where Joakim Noah will likely eat JaVale McGee alive.
