It’s that time of year again. For the third consecutive season, the Washington Wizards will have a player which will represent their team in the ‘Rising Stars Challenge’.
Exhibition games such as the ‘Rising Stars Challenge’ and virtually any other event in the All-Star circuit, are used to showcase the players’ athleticism and flash. Beal has shown some flashes of elite athleticism during the course of the season, but he certainly isn’t the type of player to thrive off flashy plays. Last season, Kyrie Irving brought home the ‘Rising Stars MVP’ award because he was able to overwhelm his opponents with isolation plays. Again, Bradley Beal doesn’t thrive off that sort of play.
Bradley Beal, who will be playing for ‘Team Chuck‘, was described as “the second best rookie this season” by Charles Barkley. Beal will probably share the starting back court with Minnesota Timberwolves guard, Ricky Rubio. We’ve seen players which have participated in this game before thrive off their ability to shoot the three ball. When asked about what to expect out of tonight’s game, Beal simply stated “Shoot the ball.” I’ll be interested to see if Beal does end up taking a lot of shots, since he does have a tendency to be a bit passive. With Ricky Rubio out on the floor, I’m sure Beal will have plenty of opportunities to showcase that beautiful jump shot.
Let’s hope Beal brings back that MVP award, just as John Wall did back in 2010.
The game will tip off at 9:00 pm EST on TNT.
