Just days after Maryland center, Alex Len, announced that he will be out 4-6 months after undergoing ankle surgery, the NBA Draft would take yet another hit. UNLV big man, Anthony Bennett, has also announced that he will miss all pre-draft workouts, after receiving rotator cuff surgery. Both players were seen as consensus top-10 lottery picks in this upcoming NBA Draft. Despite missing all pre-draft workouts, Len and Bennett will most likely get selected in the spots in which they were projected, since this years NBA Draft has been categorized as ‘weak’.
According to Chad Ford of ESPN, NBA general managers are still very high on Anthony Bennett’s stock, stating
You always would prefer a guy is healthy, works out for you and can play in summer league…However, I don’t think in this case that it will really matter. We got a good feel for his game. He’s one of the most NBA-ready prospects in the draft. I wouldn’t blink taking him in the Top 5 as long as the surgery is successful.
Nerlens Noel, who is projected to be the number one overall pick, also suffered a torn ACL, which will inevitably add even more substance to the narrative.
But how will this affect their respective positions in the draft?
The NBA Draft lottery will take place exactly 2 weeks from now and will determine the fate of some of the top prospects in this years draft.
