Sights from the Season: Steve Buckhantz's Hilarious Blunder (Video)

As we continue to look back on great moments throughout this past season for the Washington Wizards, I couldn’t help but think of Steve Buckhantz’s amazing blunder which gained national attention.

Buckhantz is known throughout the league for his ridiculous “DAGGER!” call, but unfortunately, it didn’t end well for the Wizards against the Detroit Pistons.

Ariza from the baseline from three! And the Wizards with a miraculous comeback in Washington!

Well, not quite.

After Bradley Beal couldn’t find a lane to the basket, he hopelessly kicked the ball out to Martell Webster for three, who then tipped the ball to Trevor Ariza in hopes for a ridiculous game winning buzzer-beater. Hilariously enough, virtually every Wizards fan watching from their living rooms had the same reaction as Wizards broadcasters, Steve Buckhantz and Phil Chenier. Although it took them a moment to realize what had just occurred, Buckhantz had to shamelessly “retract the dagger.”

Even though this ended in another loss for the Wizards, it ended in the most Wizards way possible. Buckhantz and Chenier are two of the best in the business, so having them sit in an elevated section in the Verizon Center while calling the game, will inevitably bring about hilarious blunders such as this one.
