After failing to acquire Dwight Howard or Andrew Bynum this off-season, it looks like San Antonio Spurs free-agent DeJuan Blair will land with the Dallas Mavericks. The Washington Wizards were also very interested in acquiring Blair, but he ultimately decided that Dallas was the best destination for him.
Surprise development in Mavs' big man search: Hearing Dallas in serious talks on signing DeJuan Blair. Told deal looks "promising"
— Marc Stein (@ESPNSteinLine) July 30, 2013
Dallas hasn’t had much luck this off-season and are desperately trying to add some depth to their frontcourt. I’m not sure how well Blair will fit into their offensive scheme, especially since the Mavericks have added a number of new faces to their roster this off-season, but he will help them in a number of ways. Blair will undoubtedly help them in the rebounding department, which is an area Dallas hoped to strengthen this off-season.
With Blair now off the market, I wouldn’t be surprised if the Wizards decide to pursue a stretch 4. Orlando Magic forward, Al Harrington, may soon be available through waivers and I wouldn’t be surprised if the Wizards express some interest in him in the future.
Washington still wants to add some depth to their roster, and even though the Wizards’ brass is saying differently, I honestly don’t believe they’re done making moves this off-season.
