As a team hoping to sneak into the playoffs, it certainly wouldn’t hurt the Washington Wizards to add some toughness and depth to their bench.

Like many guys trying to secure a roster spot on an NBA team, Ivan Johnson has bounced around the league playing professional basketball. He found a home with the Atlanta Hawks in 2011 and lasted on their team for two seasons after they decided to retract their qualifying offer this offseason.

Johnson isn’t the stretch four the Wizards need, but he does provide some depth to their roster. Washington still needs a rebounding big coming off the bench, and since Johnson’s offensive/defensive rebounding rate is higher than league average, he seems like someone who could help them out in that aspect of the game.

He’s basically a grinder, knows his role, and enjoys doing all the little things which helps the team win.

As the regular season comes closer, it wouldn’t surprise me if a team in need of a backup big snags Johnson as a roster filler.
