John Wall has recently gotten an increased amount of exposure in the media, especially after he signed the $80 million dollar contract extension which officially made him the face of the Washington Wizards franchise. He’s been featured on a number of television commercials, and now he’s amongst six of the NBA’s most talented young guards to represent the NBA Live 14 “Nothing But Next” campaign.
Anthony Stevenson, the Sr. Director of Marketing at EA Sports, was kind enough to let us in on John Wall’s involvement with the upcoming game and it’s development.
Why John Wall was chosen & the specifics of the Nothing But Next players:
NBA LIVE 14 stands for the Next Generation of basketball. We’re focused on Next Generations consoles and technology, and we wanted to work with the Next Generation of NBA stars to help us deliver the most innovative experience possible for fans. John definitely embodies that. He’s one of the most promising young floor generals in the NBA, and his enthusiasm for the game made him a perfect fit. There’s not a specific mode that is solely comprised of our Nothing But Next ambassadors, but make no mistake, when you play with these guys in NBA LIVE 14, you’re going to feel their signature touch in the way they look and play on the court.
Did Wall’s have a “hands on” involvement in the game’s creation?:
Absolutely, they’ve all played a significant role in the development of NBA LIVE. We didn’t want to sign guys just to be figureheads. We wanted guys with passion for our franchise who could lend their knowledge and expertise to help us build an authentic, innovative, and culturally progressive game; everything from gameplay to the music. Kyrie Irving and Damian Lillard had complete motion capture sessions, allowing us to deliver true 1:1 realism in game, from their signature moves to the basics of dribbling. John and Ricky Rubio saw early designs last All-Star Weekend when they spent the day with our team in Orlando and added some really insightful input that helped shaped our game. These guys have been invaluable throughout the process and we’ll continue to work closely with them during the NBA season.
Differences between this years NBA Live, compared to the ones in the past:
We’re all about delivering the Next Generation of basketball. Our innovative bounceTek system introduces physics to dribbling for the first time in a basketball video game, allowing the unique styles of each NBA player to come to life on the hardwood like never before. Our CourtQ system is powered by Synergy’s advanced statistical data. We track over 70 traits and tendencies for each NBA player, and we update them within an hour of EVERY NBA game. That means NBA LIVE 14 will always play and represent exactly what is happening in the real NBA. Fans of the NBA LIVE franchise will feel right at home with this year’s game, and new fans will be welcomed into an incredibly immersive experience, one that changes daily and brings to life the NBA’s biggest stars like never before.
I’m glad to see John Wall finally getting the type of media exposure true NBA stars get on a normal basis. If you could recall, former Wizards superstar Gilbert Arenas was featured on the cover of NBA Live ’08, and I hope Wall continues the tradition in the near future.
NBA Live 14 is scheduled to be released for the XBox One and Playstation 4 on November 19th.
