Injuries have been all too common for the Wizards this season, and it continued with Nene and Martell Webster on Friday against the Milwaukee Bucks. Both players went down with foot injuries, and they could miss Monday night’s game against the Denver Nuggets at home.
Randy Wittman provided an update after today’s practiced.
Martell’s [Webster] feeling better… We’ll look at him tomorrow, and that’s his decision. We also want to cautious and we don’t want it to be a lingering thing. He said it’s much better today, even as it got much better yesterday. So we’ll wait and see.
Wittman also talked about the Wizards having a few days off after Monday night’s game and how that factors into some of the injured players:
If it’s anything that’s not conducive to playing, then we’ll probably hold him out with days off after, with Nene being the same way. If it makes sense, because we got three days [off] after it.
The Wizards will play the Denver Nuggets on Monday at home, then they’ll have three days off to rest before flying to Atlanta to play against the Hawks on Friday. Webster is dealing with a sprained ankle, so rest would definitely be necessary in his healing process. On the other hand, Nene is suffering from tendinitis and he’s currently listed as “day-to-day”.
With all that said, I wouldn’t be surprised if Martell Webster gives it a go against the Nuggets but I don’t expect Nene to play against his former team. The Wizards realize how important Nene is to the team, so having him play instead of rest wouldn’t make much sense in this situation.
The Wizards have struggled mightily without Nene on the floor, but they have to find a way to win their home games. John Wall looked especially disheartened after Friday night’s loss, and they don’t want a repeat performance tomorrow night.
