Nene has missed the last four games due to a sore achilles, but it looks like he’ll likely return to the Wizards lineup on Wednesday night against the Brooklyn Nets.
Nene (right foot) practiced and could play Wednesday vs. the Brooklyn Nets (CSN, 7:30).
Although Trevor Booker has played some good basketball in Nene’s absence, the Wizards have lost 3 of the 4 games without the Brazilian big man in the lineup. Marcin Gortat has been forced out of position on the court and his offensive production has took a hit as a result. Nene and Gortat have played off each other since both bigs are capable of scoring as well as distributing, and Washington’s offense has faltered without Nene. John Wall is carrying the offensive load, but with both Bradley Beal and Nene back, Washington should be able to pick up a few more wins this month.
Nene has averaged about 15 points and 6 rebounds per game this season, but various foot injuries have already kept him out of 7-games. The Wizards have been dreadful in the past without Nene, but they have been able to compete. Closing out games has been tough for Washington, and they should get better at it once Nene returns to the lineup.
The Brooklyn Nets are a fairly deep team and Nene was spectacular defensively against them this past month. His presence on the court should definitely make a difference, especially on the road.
