The Washington Wizards are coming off a frustrating home loss against the Charlotte Bobcats, but John Wall will ultimately be the most frustrated player following the loss as he’s been hit with a $15,000 slap on the wrist. Wall, who’s usually reserved when it comes to foul calls and things of that nature, expressed his frustration to the media after Bobcats guard Kemba Walker received a few controversial foul calls in the fourth quarter, most notably a foul coming from three point territory which extended Charlotte’s lead late in the game. The NBA has been cracking down on negative comments directed towards their referees, so it’s no surprise that Wall was quickly hit with the fine.
Here are the comments that Wall made following the loss:
Wizards head coach, Randy Wittman, expressed his frustration with the three point foul on the court, picking up a technical foul right after Walker got the call. Like Wall, Wittman has been fined this season and he wisely avoided any comments directed towards the officials after the game. Instead, Wittman joked around with the media, saying that he picked up the technical foul after he complained to the referee about a “bad roast beef sandwich” he ate earlier that day.
Even though the calls Kemba Walker received were questionable, I think it’s safe to say that the Wizards probably would’ve lost last night’s game anyway. Their defense was suspect throughout the entire contest and Charlotte simply played better basketball down the stretch.
Let’s hope John Wall takes his frustration out on the Orlando Magic tomorrow night on the road. Washington has fallen to the sixth spot in the Eastern Conference after last night’s loss and they’ll need to bounce back against a struggling team away from home.
