The Washington Wizards haven’t gotten much support from the national media, as virtually every notable sports personality picked them to lose to the Chicago Bulls in the first round of the NBA Playoffs. With that said, the Wizards picked up their first playoff win on Sunday night in Chicago, taking the series lead, and some of the local sports teams have went out of their way to show support for the home team.
Robert Griffin III has shown up to Wizards games in the past and it’s no secret that John Wall helped recruit DeSean Jackson to the Washington Redskins, adding another All-Pro receiving option for RG3. Griffin recently spoke to CSN Washington about various topics, including the Wizards’ playoff win in Chicago. Like a lot of us, he seems pretty excited about Washington’s success on opening day of their series against the Bulls.
It was a great win,” Griffin said. “I’m good friends with John Wall, and Bradley Beal’s a guy that’s up and coming. It was good to see Nene back out there playing at a high level. So you know I am a supporter of the local teams and I feel like those teams support us as well. I’m excited to see what they can do in the playoffs. Getting that first road win I think was a lot of pressure off of them. They know they belong, and everybody in D.C. is behind them.
Washington is finally starting to get the recognition they deserve for having the capability of making some noise in the NBA Playoffs, but getting support from other local sports teams and players might be even more relevant.
The Wizards will be back home on Friday night to take on the Bulls at the Verizon Center, and don’t be surprised if RG3 makes a special appearance.
