We’re one day away from the NBA Draft and the Washington Wizards web has continued to produce more and more speculation pixels. Who will the Washington Wizards draft? Will they trade the pick? LaQuinton Ross also said that he’s familiar with the Wizards’ style of play and could potentially add another outside threat for John Wall to work with. Ross averaged over 15 points and nearly 6 rebounds per game at Ohio State while shooting 45% from the field and 35% from three, respectively.
The Dallas Mavericks, who signed Marcin Gortat to an offer sheet before it was matched by the Orlando Magic in 2009, do have some money to spend this summer and they’ll reportedly look to target both Ariza and Gortat.
But the best way to preserve 2016 space, then, is to be judicious this summer. That might involve signing only one of Gortat and Ariza and/or passing on using the mid-level exception.
The Wizards can find another wing to spot up in corners, take those pinpoint passes and knock shots down while approaching Ariza’s defensive impact. They can do so while paying significantly less than the $7.7 million Ariza made this season.
