We’re just a couple of weeks away from the start of the FIBA Basketball World Cup, but before Team USA heads to Spain, they’ll have take on a few teams in exhibition match ups.
Their first exhibition game will take place tonight. Here’s how you can watch:
Game Time: 9pm EST
Where: United Center (Chicago, Illinois)
Live Stream: ESPN3/WatchESPN
For the first time in a very long time, Chicago Bulls fans will get to see Derrick Rose play basketball on his home floor. Even though tonight’s game is merely an exhibition, it will certainly still have some emotions attached to the contest. There was some speculation regarding whether or not Rose will continue to play with Team USA, but it looks like he’s going to play a big role for the team in Spain, especially since Kevin Durant withdrew not too long ago.
DeMarcus Cousins isn’t expected to play after getting injured in practice, so the rest of Team USA’s big men will get tested.
Washington Wizards fans will get their first glimpse of Nene, who talked about the match up with Monumental Network, since the NBA Playoffs. Nene hasn’t been able to stay healthy for the duration of an entire NBA season in a long time, and some Wizards fans were discouraged to see him play for his national team, but given that this might be the last time he does so, we should expect him to play with a lot of energy.
Since Cousins is out tonight, Team USA will have to find a way to stop Brazil’s solid front court rotation comprised of Nene, Anderson Varejao and Tiago Splitter. Team USA has struggled to defend big men in the past, so it’ll be interesting to see how they tweak their rotation with Cousins out. Will Anthony Davis slide over to the center position? Will the guard play of Rose, Stephen Curry, James Harden and Kyrie Irving be enough to stop a veteran Brazilian team? Those are just some of the things I’d look out for tonight.
