Washington Wizards have unveiled a new red-white-blue alternate jersey to honor the military for the 2016-2017 NBA season

If you look good, you’ll feel good. If you feel good, you’ll play better.

There’s no advanced statistic available that measures “swag,” but that metric is pretty apparent when watching an NBA game. It’s easy to tell which players on the court have confidence and the ones that don’t.

NBA jerseys and a team’s overall look is kind of important, for both the casual fan and the dudes who actually have to put the uniforms on.

There’s nothing worse than seeing an NBA team rock vomit inducing jerseys.

Washington Wizards fans haven’t experienced much winning lately, but at least their team looks good in the process of being rather mediocre.

In 2011, the Wizards changed the entire look of their team, reverting back to the old red-white-blue scheme that the Washington Bullets were known for.

About six years later, the only Wizardly thing about the Washington Wizards is the name of the franchise. The logo has changed and the old Wizard guy is gone. The blue-white-gold that used to represent the team has been long forgotten.

The Wizards actually look like a team that belongs in the nation’s capital.

And on Thursday, the team continued to move further away from their Wizards moniker, revealing a new alternate jersey that can only be described as patriotic.

The Wizards will debut the jersey on November 11th against the Cleveland Cavaliers.

Here’s more info, via press release:

"WASHINGTON, D.C. – The Washington Wizards will pay honor to the men and women of the military with the addition of a new “Stars and Stripes” uniform during the 2016-17 season. The red, white and blue jersey will feature stars and stripes on each side while the shorts will highlight stripes and the Wizards’ Monument logo. The team also announced that Leidos will serve as the presenting sponsor of their newly-established military series initiative. For games designated as part of the military series, the USO will donate 100 tickets, courtesy of Leidos, to military families of the designated branch being honored at the game. Leidos will also support the “Military Hero Recognition,” an on-court acknowledgement of a current or former military service member."

Washington is partnering with Leidos to provide some cool perks to military families in the area. This sort of initiative matters a lot more than the results on the court. Needless to say, the players and the fans in attendance have something to be proud of.

As for the jerseys, I can unbiasedly say that they look super clean. Washington did a great job of giving the team a new look when they first changed it six years ago, so this addition is welcomed. The jersey is reminiscent of the old Bullets uniform and should be a hot sell at the Verizon Center this upcoming season.
