Washington Wizards gave Ian Mahinmi a long-term deal this past summer, raising questions about Marcin Gortat’s future in the nation’s capital.

Playoff basketball is right around the corner for the Washington Wizards.

After missing the postseason last year, Washington has climbed to the third spot in the Eastern Conference and will likely finish with homecourt advantage for the first time since the Precambrian Era.

Washington is also on pace to win 50 games for the first time since 1978.

These are all good things, right? These are all things that should leave the franchise and its fans with a good feeling in their tummies.

But over the past several weeks, the Wizards have struggled. They’ve dropped winnable games to losing teams and barely eked out wins that should’ve been blowout victories.

The team’s defense has been horrid – Washington gave up over 120 points per game on their most recent five-game road trip – and the offense has become abnormally stagnant.

There’s reason for concern, but it’s not time to push the panic button.

This week’s Mailbag will feature questions pertaining to the team’s most recent stretch of games and Marcin Gortat‘s future in D.C., which is connected to how Washington’s been playing lately.
