THE WIZARDS FOUND A WAY TO BEAT THE MIAMI HEAT 105-101, AND WIN THEIR SECOND GAME OF THE YEAR. YES, THIS IS IN ALL-CAPS BECAUSE HOLY SEA DOGS. . . THE WIZARDS BEAT THE HEAT.

/back to regular typing

So, let’s get to some brief Bullets Points:

Another game, another new starting line-up. Randy Wittman called on Chris Singleton in place of Kevin Seraphin at power forward; the rest of the starting five remained in tact with A.J. Price, Bradley Beal, Trevor Ariza, and Emeka Okafor.

We’re not sure if Chris Singleton only got the start tonight for the match-up vs. LeBron James and the Heat, or if this a long-term possibility. However, if it’s the former, Randy Wittman needs to consider starting Singleton at the power forward spot going forward. He pulled down nine rebounds and shot eight free-throws because he attacked the basket early and often. In his second season he’s now becoming the player we all thought he would be coming out of Florida State.

The Wizards tried to turn into the Sea Dogs in the fourth quarter allowing the Heat to tie the game, but they would not die. Miami never took the lead and the Wizards responded after every big LeBron James or Dwyane Wade basket.

Trevor Ariza left the game with just over seven minutes remaining in the third quarter with a strained calf, and did not return.

This win wasn’t that random and the Wizards (aka Sea Dogs) earned this victory. The Wizards came out aggressive on offense, moved the ball, and attacked the rim to get to the free-throw line. The Miami Heat defense has been suspect all season and the Wizards exploited it with 31 assists, to just ten turnovers. They actually hit shots too. As a team they shot 48.1% from the field.

A.J. Price came out on fire, didn’t commit a turnover, and looked like an effective point guard running the offense. It happened, and I’m pretty sure it wasn’t a dream. I had to check the box score to make sure though.

SeraphInsanity!!! Kevin Seraphin scored 16 points (8/12 FG) and ten rebounds.

Jordan Crawford was Jordan Crawford — some good, some frustrating — but it was mostly good tonight. He led the team in scoring with 22 points on 7-of-16 shooting from the field and 3-of-6 from three-point range.

The Wizards got their second win of the season like I said earlier, and Jan Vesely didn’t play in either of them. One is an accident, two is a coincidence……….

Aggressive Bradley Beal showed up, which hasn’t always been the case in his rookie season. It was also good to see that happen against the Heat, an opponent he really struggled against in the preseason.

Rashard Lewis didn’t score tonight, thank God. Not sure Wizards fans could have dealt with Rashard Lewis of all people having a good game.

On his 26th birthday, Martell Webster celebrated with 13 points and a perfect 5-for-5 from the free-throw line.

Here’s the box score

Two nights off and then it’s back on the grind for the Washington Sea Dogs (2-13) when they travel to take on the Hawks in Atlanta.

The Wizards finally won a game, even though they tried not to.

They wound up winning 84-82 over the Portland Trail Blazers, but had to come back to win after giving up a 15 point fourth quarter lead. Only the Wizards, man…

Here’s some Bullets Points:

One is an example, two is a coincidence, three is a trend. Tonight, in Nene’s third game of the season, the back-up point guard has outplayed the starter — whether it’s A.J. Price or Shaun Livingston, and tonight it was Shaun Livingston. The simple reason has to be Nene. After all, there’s a reason he never has a negative plus-minus. He’s good, real good, and whoever is on the court with him on the second unit benefits.

Kevin Seraphin had 10 rebounds in 33 minutes, but still managed to look bad on the glass thanks in large part to J.J. Hickson and his 19 boards.

The Wizards managed to go nearly seven minutes in the fourth quarter without scoring a single point, allowing Portland to claw back into the game. Doesn’t get any more Wizards than that.

Bradley Beal continued his frustrating passive play. He’s just a kid (19 years old), but he is so hesitant and often times looks confused.

Jan Vesely did not play, and now the Wizards are 1-0 when Vesely rides the bench all game. Make this a normal thing, Randy Wittman.

Never thought I’d say this but Trevor Ariza played well tonight. 14 points (6/9 FG), five rebounds, and only one turnover in 36 minutes. If only that happened, ever.

And then there’s Jordan Crawford. So good until the fourth quarter when he started consistently chucking and making poor decisions. Even with his 2-for-6 shooting display in the final quarter, it was enough to win and it was classic ‘JCraw’.

Also, really have to credit the Wizards defense — especially in the third quarter.

Tonight’s box score.

Can the Wizards make it a two-game winning streak? We all have our doubts, but maybe they can. They’ll have that opportunity on Friday night against the New York Knicks.
