NBA Injury Updates: Washington Wizards’ Nene Expects To Play vs. Orlando Magic

After reportedly hurting his shoulder, possibly by weightlifting, it looks like Washington Wizards big man Nene will be ready to go against the Orlando Magic on Saturday night:

Nene has missed some games due to shoulder injuries in the past, and it wouldn’t surprise me if the Wizards opted to rest him for tomorrow night’s game. However, it does seem like he’ll suit up against the Orlando Magic.

If Nene does end up resting, the Wizards will have to rely on Kris Humphries, Drew Gooden, DeJuan Blair, and Kevin Seraphin off the bench. Since Nene hasn’t been able to stay healthy since joining Washington a few years ago, the team has added some much needed front court depth this past summer.

It’s taken Humphries some time to get adjusted to coach Randy Wittman‘s system, but he’s finally starting to contribute off the bench. Drew Gooden has lost some playing time as a result, but he’s been one of the Wizards’ most dependable back up bigs. He’s done a terrific job of staying ready and waiting for his number to be called.

On the other hand, DeJuan Blair hasn’t gotten many minutes with Kevin Seraphin getting most of the time at the center position. Although he hasn’t necessarily contributed much on the court, having someone like Blair available on the bench will prove worthy at some point in the season.
