Stop playing their game
Whenever the Wizards play the other team’s game, they lose. It doesn’t matter if it was a sub-.500 team or a contender.
Washington let the other team set the terms of engagement.
That also ends today. Whenever the Wizards dictate the flow, Beal and Porter shoot lights out. Because the Wizards are playing their game.
You can’t let Toronto control their offense and the Wizards offense as well. Washington is not a run-and-gun team. Play your game.
Wall pushes the ball up the floor, at whatever pace he chooses, and Porter and Beal are waiting on the wings.
But if Porter and Beal have to race back, the Raptors are pushing them to be fast. That should not be so.
Wall is the floor general. You set the terms of the Wizards offense. You know how Porter and Beal like to be set up, and the pace at which they like it, then that’s your job to facilitate.
If you really believe you’re the best point guard, then you can do that.
You’re back now Wall. Everyone knows you can help others get “buckets buckets”. Set up your team for those wide-open threes.
Last night, as I was watching the Cavaliers and Pacers, two commercials came on with Wall. I thought is that how this postseason is going to be?
The only time someone sees a Wizard in the second round is during a 30-second commercial?
Wall, you got what you wanted. The commercials, the sneaker deals, etc.
Beal, you got what you wanted. 82 games played, first time All-Star, etc.
The best backcourt in the east got a taste of commercial success. But you forgot the bitter taste of defeat of last season.
That’s fine if you want to rest your laurels on the 12-minutes away routine.
I know you haven’t forgotten the most important thing in basketball? Your team.
Which you will lead to victory in Game 3.
