The Nicknameless
•Justin Robinson: N/A
•Isaac Bonga: N/A
•Jemerrio Jones: N/A
Three newcomers join the Washington Wizards roster with no nickname to speak of. That’s not their fault. The nickname can’t be forced. It’s an organic being that must sprout and grow on its own.
Robinson is fresh out of Virginia Tech, so his lack of NBA experience may explain his missing nickname. A few good runs like the one he had to open up the Summer League action (15 points, four rebounds, three assists, and two steals) and Robinson could find himself going by something new very soon. Even though Robinson has no nickname yet, he was a Wizards season ticket holder a kid. So, that’s pretty neat.
Isaac Bonga couldn’t get a nickname to stick during his rookie year with the Los Angeles Lakers, but then again, he only appeared in 22 games. He’s German, so maybe that can work its way into a potential nickname. Jemerrio Jones also comes over from Los Angeles with no nickname, but he’s got a lot of respect from one of the NBA’s premier bucket getters in Lou Williams. We’ll see if anything develops with these two as they trade their purple and gold for red and blue.
