Despite low expectations for the Washington Wizards this upcoming season, there are plenty of interesting storylines to keep an eye on involving the young guys.

The Wizards 2018-2019 season ended in disappointment as the team finished with a losing record (32-50) for this first time since the 2012-13 season. Next year looks to be just as gloomy. That does not mean there isn’t anything to pay attention to, though, so don’t tune the Washington Wizards out quite yet.

For starters, the Wizards have gathered a youthful core that is made up of Rui Hachimura, Troy Brown Jr., Admiral Schofield, Moritz Wagner, and Thomas Bryant. Due to the mass exodus of players such as Trevor Ariza, Jeff Green, Tomas Satoransky, Jabari Parker, and Bobby Portis Jr, the young guys will receive plenty of minutes this upcoming season. Even for guys like Brown and Wagner who are no longer rookies, this season is their first real chance at making a season-long impact on an NBA roster. Now is the time for them to prove themselves and get acclimated to the league.

While this team may miss the playoffs for the second year in a row, the young core will be worth watching. The future of the franchise, to a large degree, is tied to their development. This season, we’ll see if this group can be the one that has the Wizards competing as contenders in the future. There’s a good chance we’ll be seeing a lot of these guys for years to come in Washington, so get used to them. So what storylines should fans pay attention?
