Three Washington Wizards we want to see play better post all-star break
By Keith Cork
2. Troy Brown Jr.
Probably the biggest name on this list, Troy Brown Jr. absolutely needs to play better, this season and beyond. And it’s not really an issue with how he’s been playing so much (more on that in a bit), but a product of the fact that this is potentially the weakest position on your current Washington Wizards squad.
I’d love it if we had added a veteran for TBJ to play behind, since he seems to function better with the ball in his hands in a sixth man role anyways. But we didn’t do that, so it’s up to Troy Brown to hold it down at the swing position.
In the last five games, with the rest of the Wizards playing pretty well, TBJ has managed just 7 points per contest in 22.2 minutes per game on 39.4 percent shooting and 25 percent from behind the arc. What has buoyed his play is the 3.8 assists and 2.2 steals per game he’s also been averaging over that same span.
But TBJ can’t be an offensive liability. With the addition of Shabazz Napier and Jerome Robinson, some new offensive weapons have been added to our perimeter offense. TBJ is still our de facto 6th man on this roster, and he needs to blossom into that role for the Wizards to succeed.
When Beal isn’t scoring, TBJ needs to be the man. He hasn’t been that so far.
