2021 NBA Draft: 3 Bigs the Washington Wizards could draft at #15
By Jamal Bedell
No. 1 – Alperen Sengun
Alperen Sengun’s upside is through the roof and he truly has no ceiling in my opinion. 5-10 years down the line, we’ll probably all be asking ourselves why he wasn’t considered a consensus top-5 pick. At only 19 years old, he’s already extremely gifted on both the offensive and defensive end. Sengun is a rare mix of modern-day and old-school big. Last season for Beşiktaş in the Turkish Super League, he averaged 19.2 PPG, 9.4 RPG, 2.5 APG and 1.7 BPG.
Those are very impressive numbers, especially for a teenager! The Turkish Super League is filled with former NBA players so the competition is no slouch by any means. Sengun has incredible footwork in the post and he scores the ball at a high clip around the basket (67.9% 2pt). His athleticism may be the most underrated part of his game though. Just take a look below at how easy he makes this 360 dunk look on the fast break.

There’s so much to love about Sengun as a prospect but what stands out the most is his passion for the game. He plays with his heart on his sleeve and leaves it all on the court every game. You never have to question whether or not he’s giving it his all. Sengun is the ultimate competitor and the proof is in how well he played in his only season with the Turkish Super League. If he somehow slips to the Wizards at #15, then they should be overjoyed and ready to pounce!
Tommy Sheppard should run to turn in the draft card immediately because this would be their opportunity to add a potential future star. Sengun has a long way to go before he can became a household name in the NBA but he has all the tools to eventually reach that level. Hopefully, the stars do align on draft night and he’s somehow still there for the taking. The Wizards need all the young talent they can get and Alperen Sengun would be an excellent addition to their core!
