2021 NBA Draft: 3 guards the Washington Wizards could draft at #15
By Ethan Smith
No. 1 – Chris Duarte
One of the better shooters in the draft is reportedly high on the Wizards’ big board for the 2021 NBA Draft. Unlike Moody and Mitchell, Duarte actually worked out for the Wizards, as well, so they have had a chance to see what the Oregon guard can do up close. And reports are that they liked it.
Duarte was a junior college transfer and only played two seasons at Oregon, but once he got to PAC-12 play, he didn’t disappoint. Duarte earned all PAC-12 honors as well as being named a member of the PAC-12 All-Defense team.
It makes sense why the Wizards are high on Duarte. His strengths are the Wizards’ weaknesses, and by adding him to the squad, the Wizards could have a plug-and-play guard that addresses their biggest needs: three-point shooting and defense.
Duarte isn’t just a good shooter. He is an excellent shooter, both in catch-and-shoot situations and off the dribble. Duarte shot a blistering 42.4 percent from three on 5.5 attempts per game during his final collegiate season. AND an All-Defensive team nod? Talk about 3&D. Duarte has the skillset and maturity to fit right into the Wizards offense as a backup guard or a wing. If the Wizards can draft Duarte at #15, they will be addressing both of their biggest needs in one fell swoop.
