Isaiah Thomas, Boston Celtics

It is difficult to overlook what Isaiah Thomas has done this season.

Despite being 5’9’’ and having a slight frame, Thomas has somehow become the third leading scorer in the NBA at 29.0 points per game. He has also had to completely carry the Celtics offense, and the team is now within striking distance of the number one seed in the Eastern Conference.

IT has undergone quite the transformation from sixth man to leader on an NBA finals contender. His size still presents problems, especially on the defensive end. However, it is difficult not to respect what Thomas has done this past season, especially considering that he might not have even been a top 10 point guard entering this season.

Verdict: Thomas has been a great story this season. His severe defensive shortcomings are just too big to overlook. Wall over Thomas by a very slim margin.

Chris Paul, Los Angeles Clippers

Age never seems to catch up with CP3. He just sees the game so well and seems to be controlling every other player with a string.

He has only showed the slightest signs of slowing down, and is still putting up over 17 points, 9 assists, and 5 rebounds per game while ranking tied in second for steals. Paul also runs an offense without turning the ball over at a high level like Westbrook, Harden, and Wall all do to differing degrees.

However, instead of his Clippers coasting to a fifth consecutive 50 win season, the Clippers are fighting for home court advantage in the playoffs. It seems as if their championship window is closing, if it isn’t shut already. This is partly due to injuries to both Paul himself and Blake Griffin, but Paul’s greatness is no longer enough to get the Clippers wins.

Verdict: Paul is a legend, but Wall now leads him in points, assists, and steals. The Wizards and Clippers have nearly identical records. Also, Wall seems to get the better of CP when they go head to head. They’re almost equal, but forced to choose, I’d take Wall.
