Washington Wizards Mailbag Monday: Why 50 Wins Is More Important Than Resting Starters
By Ben Mehic
Washington Wizards are preparing for a push in the NBA Playoffs, but Scott Brooks is faced with a dilemma: should he rest the starters or push for 50 wins?
It’s hard to believe that there are only two games remaining in the 2016-17 NBA season, but we’ve reached this point already.
We’re five days away from the start of the NBA Playoffs – something Washington Wizards fans haven’t experienced in a year.
Washington is essentially locked into fourth place and will be matched up against either the Milwaukee Bucks or Atlanta Hawks in the first round.
Before the team gets there, though, head coach Scott Brooks has a number of issues to address, including whether or not to rest the starters.
Normally, that wouldn’t be much of a problem. After all, since the team is set as the fourth seed, there’s no room for improvement in the standings. But the Wizards are in a unique spot because they have a chance to make franchise history.
The Wizards haven’t won 50 games since 1979. Most of their fans have never seen them secure that many wins in a season. If Brooks opts to rest the starters, the likelihood of the team winning 50 games will obviously be significantly smaller.
This is the last Mailbag before the beginning of postseason. As always, thanks for your participation.
