On Friday, Ex-Washington Wizards guard Garrett Temple was elected as a Vice President of the National Basketball Players Association. His peers saw him as a great fit to bring unity amongst the players, and help to continue the astounding growth the league has seen in recent years. He takes over for Kyle Korver.

Garrett! You’re looking at the newest member of the NBPA’s executive board. In his four-year’s in Washington, players saw his leadership abilities front and center. In the summer of 2016 he signed a three-year, $18 million deal in Sacramento, and try his hand at leading another young group of NBA players.

The season didn’t go as planned, as the team traded franchise cornerstone Demarcus Cousins, but Temple will be needed again, as the Kings drafted four players this year. Three picks came in the first round, including Kentucky point guard De’Aaron Fox.

As a newly elected member of the NBPA’s executive board, Garrett Temple, joins the current members, including Chris Paul (President), James Jones (Secretary-Treasurer) and the other Vice Presidents LeBron James, Andre Iguodala, Anthony Tolliver, Carmelo Anthony, Steph Curry, and Pau Gasol.

While in Washington, Temple spent time as the Wizards’ player representative, and seemed destined for a role on the executive board. He spoke on what he looks forward to in this new role.

In other political/community dealings, Temple has been a very active member of the Baton Rouge community, and supported the capital city after the devastating floods of the summer of 2016.

The Wizards could certainly benefit from adding a player like Temple to the team, both for his on the court play and off-court presence. Who knows, maybe Ernie is somewhere working the trade machine.
