Washington Wizards forward Jason Smith has gone rather under the radar this summer. But that’s the kind of guy he seems to be. On Tuesday however, he and his wife welcomed a new baby boy to the world.

There will be a new Smith in Washington this fall. Jason Smith and his wife Kristy of four years welcomed 21 inch Carter Jack Smith to the world Tuesday afternoon.

Smith had a productive first year in Washington, playing both positions up front, while vastly improving on his three-point shooting, nailing 47% of his attempts. With backup center Ian Mahinmi out for much of the season, Smith got a lot more playing time at center than he expected after signing with the Wizards on a three-year deal in the summer of 2016.

Many, myself included, struggled to support Smith early on, as he struggled with his shot and rebounding. But, over the course of the season he won many fans over with his hustle, ferocious dunks, and enforcing attitude.

With Mahinmi likely healthy, and the arrival of Mike Scott, Smith’s role is somewhat up in the air. Whether he plays 20 minutes a game or 5, fans no longer have to wonder what they’ll get from the 31-year old power forward.

Either way, it’s safe to say Jason now has a new fan to root him on, and maybe to give the Wizards some good luck in their quest towards the Eastern Conference Finals.
