Washington Wizards’ owner Ted Leonsis stressed the importance of bringing back the team’s core as the Wizards work on advancing further in the Eastern Conference Playoffs. Well the core is back, and the bench has been reconfigured, so what is the current state of the Washington Wizards?

On Wednesday, John Wall officially signed his 4-year, $170 million contract extension with the Washington Wizards. There was never any doubt in my mind that he would sign. The only uncertainty was whether he would sign now, or take a chance and sign next summer, where he would be eligible for an additional $50 million, if he waited.

And one must admit that Wizards’ owner Ted Leonsis did an excellent job with the re-signings this offseason. He kept his word, and there was no drama.

With Wall’s signing, and as I recently wrote concerning Otto Porter’s max, the band is officially back together. But, this time there are a few new backup players, Tim Frazier, Jodie Meeks, Mike Scott, Devin Robinson, and Michael Young.

Although, he spoke at Porter’s press conference, I believe the fans would have liked to hear Wizards’ Coach Scott Brooks have his own presser, and discuss where he sees Washington next season and what his goals are, hopes for the team, and how he views Ian Mahinmi’s role with the team.

Since, that hasn’t happened (yet), I will try my best to ascertain where the Wizards are and where they should be next season.
