Although the Washington Wizards lost to the Golden State Warriors, Otto Porter played the perfect game.

The Golden State Warriors were heavily favored to beat the Washington Wizards. The Wizards ignored the statistics and went into the Oracle, playing at least for the first 3 quarters, as if they were going to take the Warriors down. In the end, the Wizards took themselves down, squandering their lead, 120-117.

But one player stood head and shoulders above the rest, and his name is Otto Porter, Jr. Porter played the perfect game. He didn’t let any outside noise, or inside disturbances, distract what he came to the Bay to do – show Golden State that there’s a new sheriff in town.

Porter, who knocked down a career-high 7 three-pointers, appeared as if he had complete command and control over the ball. Once the ball was in his Porter’s hands, it flew into the heavens.

As I was watching the game, I no longer saw that skinny kid from last season, this is what I saw coming across my screen:

Porter had such poise throughout the game, that he played as if the scuffle between Bradley Beal and Draymond Green didn’t happen. The only thing that concerned him was taking down the defending champions. It didn’t matter that he was up against a team of All-Stars, because he knew what he had inside – the heart of a champion.

On Friday, Porter was the best player on the court. When the arena erupted into chants of MVP while Stephen Curry was at the foul line, it was portentous. Were we witnessing a future MVP in our man Porter?

Porter was as cool as a cucumber. It didn’t matter what mistakes the Wizards made, he kept putting in an All-Star performance. He had a job to do, and couldn’t be concerned when others weren’t doing their job. Porter is the quintessential teammate, that every player should want on their team.

He didn’t jack up threes. When the ball left his hand, everyone was in shock when it missed its mark. He shot 7-for-9 from three-point range, and ended the game with 29 points. Second only to Kevin Durant who had 31.

Not only was Porter’s offensive efficiency off the charts, but his defense was also a sight to behold.

Porter was everywhere. On the defensive end, he pulled down 10 rebounds. He put in a championship performance against the defending champions. That night he was better than Stephen Curry.

There’s no showboating about Porter. There’s no two-step after knocking down a three, or trash talking. He lets his performance speak for itself.

Oracle Arena didn’t need any lights with Porter there – he torched Golden State.

The consistency and reliability of Porter is something that the Wizards can depend on every night. He doesn’t look tired, or make excuses. For 48 minutes inside those lines, he’s a professional basketball player through and through.

It’s clear that he’s put in the work and preparation during the offseason, because we’re seeing the results this season.

In the game’s final minutes the Washington Wizards handed the win to Golden State. But that doesn’t take away the perfect game played by Otto Porter.
