Wizards fans and players are ready for debut of ‘City’ edition alternates Tuesday
Tuesday night marks the first game in which the Washington Wizards wear their ‘City Edition’ uniforms. Here’s what fans are saying about the new unis.
Last week, The Washington Wizards watched the Oklahoma City Thunder roll out their ‘City‘ uniforms in front of the home crowd. On Tuesday night, it’ll be Washington’s turn to debut their hometown-inspired jerseys inside Capital One Arena when they host the Thunder.
In December, the Wizards officially announced the last of four brand new Nike-made uniforms. The concept behind The City Edition jerseys is to honor the local fanbases of each NBA team.
Washington’s all-white version pays homage to the Nation’s Capital and features dark blue letters: “The District of Columbia.” The “D” in district, is inspired by one of the most recognizable landmarks in the U.S., the National Monument. Meanwhile, the shorts feature a subtle nod to the city. A patch on the front of the waistband dawns red stars and stripes to replicate the D.C. flag.
The team released a video capturing player reactions to the intricacies, colors and overall look.
All-star guard Bradley Beal‘s No. 3 jersey serves as the template version. His initial reaction was simple: “I like ‘The District’ touch.”
Backup guard Tomas Satoransky expressed approval saying, “Oh, wow. They’re nice.”
The team’s unofficial style expert Kelly Oubre Jr., gave an animated assessment like only he could. “Oh, ok! Ey, these tough,” he said. “Who made these, me?”
Washington fans are getting in on the fun, too, posting to social media to comment on the new gear.
Loving all the Nike design variations on the NBA jerseys this season. This Wizards/Bullets "The District" jersey is awesome!

In addition to Tuesday night, the Wizards will be sporting these District uniforms in 11 other games including home games against the Boston Celtics (Feb. 8), Golden State Warriors (Feb. 28), Toronto Raptors (Mar. 2), San Antonio Spurs (Mar. 27) and Atlanta Hawks (Apr. 6).
