John Wall, We all we got bro
With John Wall expected to miss 6 to 8 weeks after knee surgery, the Washington Wizards didn’t throw in the towel. They have come back stronger and are ready to go another round.
This past September, during the Washington Wizards training camp, John Wall in a social media message to Bradley Beal wrote, “I wonder who else gonna team up next to try to win a ship this year. but who care cause we all we got bro ..DC or Nothin !!”
That comment was made around the time that Dwyane Wade would be going to the Cleveland Cavaliers. I don’t have Instagram where the comment was made, but I thought that’s the fighting spirit.
Wall as co-leader of this team was telling his other general, so what if other teams got special soldiers—Kyrie Irving and Gordon Hayward to Boston, Isaiah Thomas to Cleveland and Paul George and Carmelo Anthony to Oklahoma City—this is the team we have and this is the team that we’re going to lead into battle.
He was telling Beal and Wizards fans alike, don’t look to what other teams have and what the Wizards don’t. This doesn’t change our goals this season. Other team’s makeups won’t determine where the Wizards end up. The Wizards will determine its own destiny.
In the since deleted post, Wall was trying to motivate his team. Although the NBA landscape had changed dramatically, the Wizards’ eye weren’t on these new teams. But rather their eyes were still on still on the prize—the Eastern Conference Finals.
After it was announced, that Wall would miss 6-8 weeks for knee surgery, those words came ringing back to me. The Wizards are all they got. They will still press on towards their mark.
They have always been counted out, but they have always counted on each other.
