Wizards suffer crushing loss to the Celtics in overtime
Turnovers, layups and free throws an ugly recipe
Washington had 22 turnovers which led to 24 points for Boston. Nonetheless, as Brooks noted, the Wizards competed to take the lead by three in the final seconds.
According to Brooks, “quite frankly we missed a lot of layups. I’m assuming we missed probably 20-something shots inside the paint and that on top of the turnovers and they made shots.”
Add the 22 turnovers, the missed layups and Washington hardly seeing the free throw line, the Wizards were giving away points.
Such a high amount of turnovers is never good against a team who is well-known to overcome double-digit leads.
Beal only had one free throw attempt. While the Celtics collectively had 34 attempts at the line to the Wizards 20.
Irving got to the foul line ten times.
The Celtics have drawing contact down to a science, which they use to their advantage in close games, and especially during the postseason. Their strategy is not to foul at any cost, unless it’s absolutely necessary.
One other problem Washington had is that they wasted too much time on the clock, whenever the ball was in their possession.
