On Wednesday, the Washington Wizards will meet up with their East Coast nemesis–the Boston Celtics. The Celtics hold the second spot in their conference, while the Wizards are looking to climb out of the fifth.
The two teams split their series, with each winning on the other’s homecourt, including the memorable Christmas Day matchup.
Last season, neither team could win on the other’s court, and that was a deciding factor when the Wizards lost in Boston for Game 7.
Tonight’s game is the end of a back-to-back for Washington, after losing to the Timberwolves on Tuesday.
There are no winners with injuries. Boston will be coming into tonight’s game shorthanded–and that’s putting it mildly– according to their injury report.
The Celtics will be without Kyrie Irving (sore knee), Jaylen Brown (concussion protocol), and Marcus Smart (thumb sprain).
Al Horford, previously listed as questionable (illness), is also out.
While Daniel Theis is scheduled for season-ending surgery on his torn left meniscus. Celtics head coach Brad Stevens said, that Boston won’t add any new players, but will fill the roles internally.
Boston called up rookie center Guerschon Yabusele from the Maine Red Claws.
While Greg Monroe will step in for Theis. According to Stevens, ‘”one of the reasons they signed [Monroe] is that you never know what can happen with your depth inside”. He added, that they also might play Semi Ojeleye at the five.
