On Wednesday, the Washington Wizards announced that they signed veteran point guard Ty Lawson.

The Washington Wizards finished the season with a 43-39 record and a trip to the playoffs. Albeit, it’s the 8th spot in the East, one can choose to look on the bright side. They made it to the postseason without having their best player–John Wall–for most of the year.

Although the regular season ended on Tuesday, Washington wasn’t finished making moves. It was reported on Wednesday, that they signed veteran point guard Ty Lawson to their roster.

Wizards President Ernie Grunfeld had this to say about the Lawson signing:

"“Ty’s experience and ability will give us extra depth in the backcourt during the playoffs. He’s a veteran player who can score and distribute while bringing additional postseason experience.”"

While NBA reporter David Aldridge noted:

Previously, Lawson played eight seasons in the NBA. The last team being with the Kings for 2016-17.

While in Sacramento, he averaged 9.9 points and 4.8 assists.

Over the span of his NBA career, the veteran guard averaged 12.7 points and 6 assists.

During his one-year with Shandong of the Chinese Basketball Association, Lawson averaged 25.5 points and 6 assists.

Although Lawson is new the team, he isn’t new to postseason action after making five playoff appearances–Nuggets (2010-13) and Pacers (2016).

The obvious question for some will be how many point guards do they need? They now have five.

However, since Wall’s return, coach Scott Brooks has been running some plays with both and Wall and Tomas Satoransky on the floor.

As the Wizards begin their playoff run on Saturday against the Toronto Raptors, it will be interesting to see the different rotations.

Welcome to Washington, Mr. Lawson.
