The Washington Wizards were down 2-0 but they were not out, when they beat the Raptors on Friday taking Game 3. Toronto’s coach Dwane Casey had the best word for the way the Wizards played, “they punched us”.
In his postgame comments, before any of the podium players came out, Casey gave John Wall and Bradley Beal the highest of praise.
Toronto just got beaten and beaten badly. Yet, the class that Casey displayed for the Wizards backcourt, and the entire team as whole, was unlike anything I have ever witnessed before.
In that moment, I was going to pen a whole article on Casey’s podium but this is about the Wizards. But the level of respect that he gave Wall and Beal before they came out to speak deserves something.
In short regarding the “skirmishes” on the floor, that didn’t exist for Casey. He said, the Wizards “played the way the playoffs are supposed to be played”.
For Casey to say that Wall and Beal played the right way, a physical manner, against his players, was the highest praise.
I don’t know if Wall and Beal knew what Casey said before they reached the podium.
Because Casey didn’t defend his players or point fingers. He said, the Wizards did what they’re supposed to do.
Yes, the Wizards did what they were supposed to do, protect homecourt beating the Raptors, 122-103
Before we get to Casey’s comments let’s start with our Washington Wizards.
