While there’s buzz with the Washington Wizards about a “secret extension”, there’s another secret which really mattered for the 2017-18 season.

I have no opinion about President Ernie Grunfeld. I only met him in passing during Game 5 of the Boston Series at TDGarden. It was well before the game started and although I was a fan, I walked onto the court to speak to another member of the media. While cutting across I spotted Mr. Grunfeld speaking to someone.

As I passed by, I said “Hi, Mr. Grunfeld”. He responded, as if he knew me. It was a simple ‘hi’, but first impressions count. But they don’t count so much, that I could write an article about whether he should stay or go. I’ll leave that to the fans and other members of the media. Or the expert who broke the story–Candace Buckner of the Washington Post.

But I’ll tell you one thing, he was the nicest person inside that Celtics arena.

So my focus is on the games that were played.

If money wasn’t an issue the core would be John Wall, Otto Porter, Bradley Beal, and Mike Scott coming off the bench. Everyone else is negotiable.

Not saying that the Wizards have to do a LeBron James and trade half the team, I’m writing that they do.

But it all depends on their goal. Is it to reach the second-round? Reach the Eastern Conference Finals? Get out of the East?
