When free agency is really free

Just watching Rondo this season, talking to the bigs and the way they listened to him. They were always in attack mode.

Spears also reminds everyone of the day Cousins had his season-ending injury while playing Houston, the Pelicans beat the Rockets who had the best record. Cousins:

"“Honestly, it just kind of sucks how quickly people forget or the people that didn’t forget that just didn’t even know. You had to be paying close attention to us to know the ups or downs of our season. The people that were paying attention, they know we were about to turn that corner. We had just beat the hottest team in the NBA that night, but for some reason that didn’t matter. I’ve been around this business long enough I know how storylines go. I know how the media presses issues. I know how they use things to get clickbaits in. As sad as it sounds, and no disrespect to you, but not a lot of research goes into these articles nowadays. It’s more about what can I use to make people pay attention, and I think that’s another case with this.”"

"That being said, how good were the Pelicans at that time? It was scary, and at that moment we thought that we could battle with any team in the NBA. It didn’t matter. It’s crazy because I remember [Rajon] Rondo saying, ‘Man, it’s clicking.’ And the way we were meshing together, everybody was flowing together. I can remember him talking about it saying we’re clicking, it’s looking so good out here and, you know, it happens."

Cousins response that “not a lot of research goes into these articles nowadays”, was not only a glimpse into his intelligence both on and off the court. But, there was also a lot of truth to that statement.

Interesting that not only does Cousins know how the game is played, he knows how the media sometimes play their own game.

But the question that everyone wants to know is: what Cousins will do in free agency?

He is open to re-signing with the Pels, because his teammates what him there. However, he adds that this is his “first time in free agency, but I’ve been around this business long enough. I know how things work.”

“I don’t plan on rushing through this process. I’m going to make the absolute best decision for DeMarcus Cousins.”
