The 2018 NBA Free agency is upon us. While everyone is watching where LeBron James will build his new kingdom. Or why Kawhi? The Washington Wizards want to keep the great and talented Mike Scott. Can Ernie Grunfeld work his magic?

The Washington Wizards recently acquired Austin Rivers from the Clippers. On Monday, they will hold a press conference to introduce the combo guard.

However, Washington still needs an athletic big, amid reports that they’re moving towards small ball.

Whatever direction the Wizards are moving, they have to keep Mike Scott at all costs, now that he’s an unrestricted free agent.

For those who watched the 2017-18 NBA season, Scott was a delight to watch, You think he’s pivoting on one foot to turn back and pass the ball, but “swoosh”. It’s a cold smooth jumper. There is ice in his veins, pure ice.

In amazement, we collectively wondered, how did that go in?

Now here truly was a Wizard that made magic on the court. These weren’t Hail Mary shots. He knew exactly what he was doing, when everyone else didn’t.

It was pure delight watching and anticipating what the Great Scott (not to be confused with Houdini) was about to do.

For the 2016-17 NBA season, I penned an article, The Beauty of Bojan Bogdanovic. He too made some incredible shots. But not like Mike, not like Mike. Scott stands on his own.

I was a fan of Bo Buckets last season, hoping that the Wizards could keep him at all costs. But then when I read his demands, I wrote last summer:

"There once was a man named Bogdanovic His three-ball was really slick, He asked for $12 mil, Ted said, chill. Now he’s agonavic."

When Leonsis balked, the Wizards didn’t make a mistake in letting Bo walk.

Now back to Scott. Will he be performing his magic somewhere else, once the clock strikes midnight (12:01 AM on July 1)?

The Wizards want Scott to remain. However, as an unrestricted free agent can they afford the forward’s services? The unadulterated truth– free agency isn’t free.

Chase Hughes of NBCSportsWashington is now reporting, that as many as 10 teams want the Great Scott.
