Washington Wizards: 30 greatest players in franchise history
Forward Jack Marin was one of the earlier pioneers of success for the Bullets in his time. He was the fifth overall pick in the 1966 NBA Draft out of Duke University. During his rookie year, he earned First-Team All-Rookie honors for his performance, producing 9.6 points, 4.2 rebounds and 1.0 assists per contest in 74 appearances.
By the 1971-72 season, he emerged as an All-Star for the club. It was his only All-Star appearance with the franchise. During that season, he averaged a career-high 22.3 points per game, second on the team.
He poured in a career-high 42 points on Nov. 7, 1971, against the Houston Rockets. In a 109-106 victory, Marin outdueled future Bullets player Elvin Hayes to propel his team to victory. Hayes finished the game with 38 points.
It would be his final season with the Baltimore Bullets, but Marin went out with a bang. He led the league in free throw percentage (89.4 percent) during the 1971-72 season as well.
Just as things were getting good, Marin was traded away to the Rockets for none other than Hayes himself. Marin currently ranks eighth all-time in win shares, racking up 41.3 in his time with the Baltimore Bullets.
Through six seasons with the Bullets, Marin averaged 16.7 points, 6.2 rebounds and 2.1 assists in 480 appearances. He would go on to play for two other NBA franchises other than the Rockets and Bullets, but his impact was felt the most with the Baltimore franchise.
