Washington Wizards: 30 greatest players in franchise history
Small forward Greg Ballard was another sensational player for the Bullets. He spent eight seasons with Washington from 1977-1985 and was a member of the Bullets’ 1977-78 championship team. He played sparingly during his rookie season in terms of minutes, but still made 76 appearances as a rookie.
Ballard was the fourth overall pick in the 1977 NBA Draft by the Bullets out of the University of Oregon. During the team’s run to their one and only NBA title, he averaged 4.2 rebounds and 3.9 points in 19 postseason games.
His career season came in 1981-82, when he put up 18.8 points, 8.0 rebounds, 3.2 assists and 1.7 steals per game on 47.5 percent shooting from the floor. That season, he produced a career-high 1,486 total points during the regular season.
He put up a career-high 38 points in a 111-104 loss to the Portland Trail Blazers back on Feb. 3, 1981. Despite the loss, Ballard solidified himself as one of the top in franchise history.
In the 1985 offseason, he was traded to the Golden State Warriors for draft picks. In his time with the Washington Bullets, he produced 12.4 points, 6.1 rebounds and 2.2 assists per contest through 643 appearances.
Currently, he ranks second all-time in franchise history in steals (762), fourth in offensive rebounds (1,201), fifth in total rebounds (4,094) and seventh in field goals made (3,699). He made his presence felt as a member of the Bullets and will go down as one of the best.
