To say that Troy Brown Jr. has not impressed is an understatement. The Wizards spent the 15th overall pick of the draft on him and so far he’s been a disappointment.

Let’s recap his performances in the first three games of preseason shall we?

Game 1: 20 MPG, 2-9 FGM/FGA, .222  FG% | 4 PTS, 7 TRB, 1 AST

Game 2: 6 MPG, 0-0 FGM/FGA, .000 FG% | 0 PTS, O TRB, 1 AST

Game 3: 17 MPG, 2-9 FGM/FGA, .222  FG% | 4 PTS, 5 TRB, 1 AST

I understand that Brown is a rookie and we have to take into consideration the development process, but these stats are awful. The Wizards liked his versatility and defensive attributes coming out of the University of Oregon, but so far he’s failed to demonstrate these features.

Washington has two preseason games remaining and Brown needs to showcase some of these appealing traits before the regular season starts. As of right now, unless an injury occurs, Brown will be watching from the bench the entire season.

Yes, this is great for him to grow as a player, but for the most part, first round draft picks should be bringing something to the table. There are gaps in his game that need to be addressed. Unfortunately for Brown, there isn’t much time to do so.

Despite all this, it will be great for Brown to learn behind Otto Porter Jr., and Kelly Oubre Jr. Hopefully in these next preseason games we can see glimpses of Brown’s true potential
