Otto Porter Jr. has been deemed the third option for the Wizards and rightfully so. He’s been the most productive and showed the most promise outside of Wall and Beal.

Porter recently received a four-year max contract of $106 million after the Wizards matched the Brooklyn Nets offer-sheet. Ernie Grunfeld, Brooks, and the entire Wizards organization believe that Porter will take the team to the next level.

One could argue that he has the most pressure of any player on the team to live up to this contract. Most believe that he’s not worth the money especially with how deep Washington’s roster is this year.

With that being said, Porter has shown in preseason that he’s up for the challenge. He’s been in double figures 4 out of the 5 games. But double figures won’t be enough to earn his contract and help elevate the Wizards to the next level.

Porter will need to 17 plus points and be a reliable third option for Washington if they want to make any noise in the East. With Wall being back and healthy, Porter will have an easier time spotting up for open shots, especially 3’s. His points in transition will increase as well with the quicker offense that is being implemented.

At minimum, Porter will need to be an elite defensive weapon for the Wizards. Taking on opposing teams offensive studs will be a challenge he needs to take on. We will find out if Porter is worth the money this season.
