To the distaste of many the signing of Carmelo Anthony may be what the Washington Wizards need to make a change.

Yes, Carmelo Anthony doesn’t play defense, but the Washington Wizards don’t do that generally either. Anthony has been the scapegoat for the Houston Rockets problems and the reason why they got off to such a poor start to the season.

Houston fans forget that James Harden, the MVP, was injured leaving a 33 year old Chris Paul to run the show. By no means can Paul or Anthony run their own team anymore. The Wizards seem intent on keeping the band together so why not add to it?

Obviously Anthony isn’t in his prime, in fact he’s on the ladder half of his career and that’s picked up momentum in the last two years. He never really wanted to come off the bench, but his defense liabilities can’t be covered up by his prolific scoring anymore.

Both the Rockets and the Oklahoma City Thunder seem to play the blame game on him, yet guys like Chris Paul and Paul George advocate for Anthony. Confusing.

Anthony still has a skill set that can be used for the right team. His 3 point shot and his lack of fear to in clutch moments . That’s exactly what the Wizards need right now.

It’s already been a mind-boggling start and Wizards players, coaches, and fans don’t seem to know what to do with themselves anymore. A team who’s in limbo and a player who’s limbo could provide the perfect twilight zone match. Ironic as it sounds, Anthony could be just want the Wizards need.
