Washington Wizards: Kelly Oubre Jr. signs shoe deal with Converse
Washington Wizards small forward, Kelly Oubre Jr., signed a new shoe deal with Converse.
Kelly Oubre Jr. has agreed to a multi-year footwear and apparel deal with converse. The gifted, young star had a previous deal with Adidas, but that deal expired before the start of the season.
Just as a reminder, Nike bought Converse back in 2003. The deal is two-folded. Oubre will wear converse casually and Nike when he’s on the basketball court.
Converse has been trying to emerge itself back into the basketball culture and this is another step in that process. Oubre has known to be a flashy and stylish player, so the signing makes sense. He’s also a young talent that is currently playing well for the Washington Wizards averaging 11.8 points off the bench.
It wouldn’t be a surprise if Oubre eventually becomes an All-Star in the league. On top of his fashion sense, he’s got all the promise and talent in the world. His defensive game is already good and his offense is progressing night in and night out.
It’s known that Oubre doesn’t lack confidence. He had the NBA world raving about the Supreme Leg sleeve he wore against the Brooklyn Nets last season.
Clearly, Oubre is up to try anything at this point. I’ll be curious to see what casual and athletic shoes come out first for him. One things for sure, basketball is his first love, but having swag is a close second.

This is a big deal for Oubre. It shows that Converse/Nike believe that he will be a future star in NBA by what they’ve seen demonstrated on the court. Does this signing indicate that he’s headed for the big lights in a big city?
As a Wizards fan, I hope not, but only time will tell…
