The Wizards should do everything in their power to try and keep Kelly Oubre Jr. He’s been the best bench performer and clearly has out-player Porter.

What’s not to like about the young, small-forward?

He’s aggressive, plays hard every play, and is one of the most stylish basketball players in the league. Oubre is a defensive stud and it’s only going to progress. His offensive is coming along nicely as he’s producing 12.6 points off the bench.

Other teams are aware of these talents which makes him a valuable piece to possibly included in potential deals. He’s on the final year of his rookie deal as he didn’t sign an extension for the Wizards. Looks as though he is betting on himself to get the pay-day he well deserves.

Being on the last year of his contract makes things tricky as teams don’t want to trade for a piece that would leave once free agency hits. If the Wizards trade Porter and show Oubre that they are committed to him being a center piece to build around, then Oubre might consider staying. But, he could also be convinced elsewhere.

It makes more sense for a team that is already in the rebuilding process to make a move for him. Contenders wouldn’t want to pay the price for a possible rental. Washington would be able to get great value in return for the upcoming star.

If you ask everyone in D.C. they would give Porter the boot and keep Oubre. Unfortunately the Wizards might not have a choice but to part ways with him.
