Washington Wizards forward, Troy Brown Jr., has been recalled from the G-league to provide more depth against the Houston Rockets.

Troy Brown Jr. played two games for the Capital City Go-Go over the weekend. He’s the first Wizards first-round draft pick to be assigned to the G-League. Should this be concerning?

This is a two-fold topic. The Washington Wizards currently have a deep roster, so it’s understandable to see that Brown hasn’t seen much playing time.

However, not everyone on the team has been performing great, which is where the red flags pop up. Brown clearly hasn’t proven to the coaching staff that he deserves any minutes. With inconsistent play from individuals like Austin Rivers, Tomas Satoransky, even Otto Porter at times, Brown should have been able to wiggle some playing time.

His first game for Capital City he had 13 points and 4 assists, nothing special. The second game was much better as he poured in 19 points, 7 rebounds, and 6 assists. He clearly showed more confidence and found his rhythm in that game.

I will say that it’s nice for the Wizards to finally have a G-League team that they can send individuals down to get more development, but with as high as the team took Brown there is still slight concern.

The start of this season has not gone according to plan. The team stands at 7-12 heading into their matchup against the Houston Rockets. Practically everyone on the roster hasn’t played up to their full potential. If Brown hasn’t been able to get the attention of the coaching staff at this point, then what does that say about his game?

It’s probably safe to say that he won’t crack the rotation at all this season unless some injuries or trades occur. Don’t be surprised if he continues being assigned to the G-league to work on his game. It’s good for the long-term, but it’s extremely disappointing to see, especially since he was taken 15th overall in the draft.
